Pepsi Supports Homosexuals Through Rhetoric
Today in my current events class we discussed the whole issue of gay marriage and all of the commotion that is happening in California. My teacher Cindy Kern showed us examples of how the media has been a major factor in "normalizing" the gay community. I felt that this wass rhetoric. My teacher showed us examples of advertisements that showed gays and portrayed it as something completely normal. There were a couple but I will go into specifics about one. It was a comercial for Pepsi, I had seen the advertisement before and it had never crossed my mind that it was supporting homosexual behavior. This shows that Pepsi was succesful in it's attempt to make homosexual behavior seem common and normal. The ad had an attractive young man walking down the street and holding a Pepsi, all the ladies were checking him out and at the end of the comercial there was a man checking him out. The media is using rhetoric to normalize homosexual behavior and make it seem like a lot of people support it and it is just a normal thing. Which is false.
