january has been absolutely freezing this year. the news said that this is the coldest winter to hit utah for 9 years. we are talking negative temperatures. with warm days being in the single digits.
yesterday it warmed up a few degrees (20s) and i dont know how it happened but it was raining. well this resulted in a thick layer of ice covering every inch of every ground. this made for an interesting day on campus and outdoors. this youtube video was taken on campus. check out the guy in the background that eats it and slides down the whole pathway. i thought i broke my elbow from my own fall. (both feet came out from under me and i landed straight on my elbow)
january has brought some fun activities despite the cold. sometimes you have to embrace the weather and try to take advantage of the snow activities and the beauty that it can bring.
so when i was in hawaii we had a club we called the sunset club, we would go to sunset beach on sunday evenings and watch the sunset. well some of my friends from hawaii that have found their ways out to utah and i decided to restart the club. utah lake was the closest thing we could get to the beach. it is completely frozen all the way across. it looks pretty insane.
a few weeks ago i went snowshoeing with a few friends. it was a first for me. i had no idea what to expect. for some reason i imagined tennis rackets strapped to my feet. it ended up being exactly like hiking, except harder because its cold and snowy. i am not the biggest fan of hiking unless there is a worthwhile destination like a waterfall or something, so i think snowshoeing wont be in my future. but it was beautiful!
the sundance film festival is currently in park city. we went up there for dinner last weekend, and saw a few celebs.
so today. i was reading thru a copy of Marie Claire that was laying around my apartment and started to read an article and look what i came across. a reference to my "ruggedly handsome" cousin JT Holmes. it was a pleasant surprise.
