Gratitude Journal
Being a student at BYU, comes with many perks. One of these is the chance to listen to inspiring devotionals weekly. A few weeks ago Ray Huntington, a Religion Professor, gave a devotional titled "A Grateful Heart". In his talk he urged the listeners to keep a gratitude journal. This was again reiterated in the LDS General Conference this past weekend. I have realized throughout my life, that whenever I take time to count my blessings I have a change in my perceptions and attitude. So after hearing this BYU devotional, I challenged myself to try to write in a journal at the end of each day what I was grateful for one that particular day.
Well I have a history of being horrible at keeping a journal. This however has been simple and easy. Each night before I go to bed I have written what I was grateful for that day. I thought that I would write only a few things a day, but these lists have been fairly long! It is a perfect way to end my day and spent just a few simple minutes to thank my Heavenly Father for all my blessings. This is special because it allows me to thank Him for specific blessings. Since starting this last week, I have not had a bad day, some lists have been shorter than other but focusing on the good in my day usually wipes out the bad. I have felt significantly happier and felt a deeper love for the beauty of the earth and the relationships I have.
I recommend this to anyone! Whether struggling or not, this simple journal can brighten your life!
